Privacy and Access to Records

Privacy

Your health information is protected by BHN Service. When we collect personal information, as defined by the Act, we will comply with the Australian Privacy Principles.

A privacy law regulates how personal information is collected, used, disclosed, stored, accessible, and disposed of throughout its life cycle. Access the BHN Privacy Procedure.

Access to Records

As part of its commitment to supporting clients’ rights to access information held about them under the Health Records Act, BHN also ensures that clients’ personal information and health records are protected and handled in accordance with Australian Privacy Principles.

Clients and those acting on their behalf will have their requests considered, and proactive disclosure will be made to provide relevant information. Individuals or entities acting on behalf of our clients must obtain the written consent of the client or demonstrate legal authority (i.e. Executor of the Deceased Estate, court subpoena).

Under the following circumstances, BHN may refuse access, in whole or in part:

  1. Providing access would have an unreasonable impact on other individuals’ privacy;
  2. Granting access would pose a serious threat to the life, health, or safety of another individual, or to public health or safety;
  3. The law or a court/tribunal order requires or authorises denying access;
  4. It is a vexatious request.
