Smoking Cessation

BHN provides a free service for anyone who wants to address their smoking habit. We can provide you with a number of options for reducing or quitting smoking so you can live a healthier life.

Individual Counselling

Individual counseling allows you to discuss smoking, its impact on your life, and what it means to you with a specially trained smoking cessation facilitator. If you want to reduce the harm from tobacco or give it up entirely, we can help you. In order to determine what might work best for you, we will:

  • Identify your individual needs and provide you with support
  • Educate you and guide you in finding healthy distractions
  • Learn how to change smoking-related behaviour
  • Provide you with healthier alternatives to manage stress
  • Provide information, education, and support regarding smoking cessation medications such as Champix or Zyban.

With the help of a counsellor, you can learn how to:

  • Identify realistic goals
  • Get the help you need
  • Change your lifestyle for the better
  • Discover how addiction and unwanted smoking patterns affect your health
  • Deal with the negative feelings and thoughts that can accompany change
  • Celebrate your successes and develop a positive approach to quitting smoking

Group Work

It is also possible to receive support through group work. Ask the intake and referral service about our groups for stopping smoking.

People who smoke and live with mental illness can participate in Living Beyond Cigarettes once or twice a year. It can provide a safe place to discuss smoking with others who have similar experiences. You can discuss ways to reduce harm or give up smoking together.

In the course, group work includes:

  • Current information and education
  • Peer support and group discussion
  • Fun activities
  • The practice of mindfulness meditation
  • Getting to know the medications that can help you quit smoking

We can also connect you with any other service(s) that you may need in addition to the Freedom From Tobacco services above. A wide range of health services are offered by BHN.

We ensure a coordinated and multidisciplinary approach since we provide a full range of health and wellbeing services. Our staff are highly qualified and experienced.
